Yesterday, I had a conversation with a close friend about my effort to be supportive of someone close to me and others I know who identify as LGBTQ. She mentioned that understanding this community is a challenge for many, explaining, "LGBTQ is not an identity; it's a relationality," a distinct way of relating.
That landing in my ears, brain and heart all at the same time was 🤯! It offered a totally new perspective. Hearing her say this was like awakening to something that has always been directly present yet unnoticed. Her insight helped me understand the LGBTQ experience more as a manner of relating to oneself and others, rather than simply a set of identity labels used to bury people, which is often falls-short, reductive and misleading.
Once realization strikes, It strikes like lightening on a summer night and we only have ohhhhhhh wowwwww amazing.
