One of the things I appreciate most in training with Genjo Osho is his extraordinary ability to awaken a sense of awe in me… to remind me, again and again, of the Universal Loving Presence that all of us have.
It happens in so many ordinary ways that if I’m not paying attention are easily overlooked.
Sitting around a table with others at morning coffee or looking at photographs he’s taken through his telescope of the vast universe beyond us. Walking the dogs together in the park. Mindfully cleaning and caring for the temple. Sometimes it’s the sheer wonder of going flying with him, seeing the world from an entirely different perspective.
Sometimes that awe arises in dokusan (formal training interview with the teacher), when he looks directly at me and asks, “Show me no life and no death…”
And sometimes… perhaps when I need it most… it happens when I think I have nothing more to give. When the demands of caring for others have left me exhausted, and he looks me directly in the eye and says, “No worries… you can’t go wrong. Just go straight on.”
It’s helpful reminder… not simply in the words themselves, but in the kindness and compassion through which they’re offered.
Over time, I’ve come to appreciate he isn’t giving me something I don’t already possess. He’s simply helping me recognize what I sometimes lose sight of in the busyness and complexity of everyday life, because thinking blocks the ability to see what is.
This is one way of expressing ‘Ordinary Loving Presence is The Way.’ May all Beings discover this for themselves, in their own way... Right Here… Right Now.
Wake Up!
