Just for today... Gift rather than withhold... compassion, positive action, respect, and empathy.
Many times I've heard our oldest living NA member say... the gift of recovery is that we get to help dead people return to life.
In my own experience, the entire span of recovery and healing has been met with goodwill... generosity... candid vulnerability... supportive friendships... the receipt of hard-won experience... and most of all patience. People didn't give up on me, in doing the work to heal life wounds that intersected with the disease.
Ever day, I notice, learn and come to deeper understandings of my ongoing healing process. Today I get to share forward the endless lessons gifted to me that emerged from loving-kindness and the sacred connections, born from the suffering that first brought us into the rooms of recovery and healing. That purpose... being of service... which for me is an expression of gratitude... mysteriously and without noticing became my life purpose, and in the mission friend of the therapeutic value of one addict helping another, there's been a lot of joy and freedom.
That said I can boil the disease of addiction down to one simple thing... it's rooted in negativity. Put that way, recovery is cultivating and nurturing inward positivity changing the relationship with our heart and mind, and acting on it through our values.
Just for today... i gift goodwill and love... rather than collaborate with the disease of addiction and withhold it.
